Chain Queen — Caisa, Helsinki
Description was written before the event

Chain Queen is a solo performance by circus artist Saana Leppänen, in which aerial acrobatics executed with metal chains explores gender inequality, power, and the body. The chains function on stage simultaneously as obstacle and enabler - as an instrument of power and a symbol of freedom.

The performance combines drag aesthetics, embodied gender stereotypes, and physical circus art. It deconstructs gender roles and their power structures - not humbly, but with a crown on its head.

Concept and performance: Saana Leppänen. Composition and music: Thibaud Rancoeur. Light design: Jaakko Sirainen. Dramaturgical and directorial assistance: Meri-Maija Näykki. Costume and curtain sewing: Ella Kauppinen. Production: Sirkus Aikamoinen.

Performance duration: 45 min. Age recommendation: 12+. Age rating: K-7. The performance is silent.

Content notes: The performance uses strobe lighting and theatrical fog. The use of metal chains may evoke associations with violence, restraint, and liberation.
