Mike Wheeler (USA) & Highway

Guitar-playing vocalist Mike Wheeler, whose voice has been compared to Sam Cooke's, is a brilliant force at the heart of Chicago blues. He has composed songs not only for himself but also for many local artists, including Nellie "Tiger" Travis, Demetria Taylor, and Big Ray. He was a member of the legendary Big James & The Chicago Playboys, where Wheeler recorded five albums. During his solo career, Wheeler has recorded four albums, three of them for Delmark. As an ambassador of Chicago blues, Wheeler has toured the world, bringing the city's unique sound to places including Monaco, France, Switzerland, Spain, and Belgium.

Wheeler has shared the stage with some of the world's most legendary blues and soul musicians, such as Willie Kent, Koko Taylor, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, George Benson, Jimmy Johnson, and Shemekia Copeland. His outstanding career has been recognized with two inductions into the Chicago Blues Hall of Fame, in 2014 and 2019.

Mike Wheeler is accompanied by experienced Finnish musicians in Highway: Jonne Kulluvaara (guitar), Jan-Olof Strandberg (bass), Petteri Määttänen (drums), and Good Rockin' Kempas (vocals/harmonica).
