Departure: Hallainvuori playground, Myllärintie 6. Registration via a separate link.
3 PM | Forest concert: kantele artist Pekko Käppi
You can attend the concert without registration, and without joining the walks. Directions to the concert site from Hallainvuori playground at 2:45 PM. Bring a seat cushion.
Pekko Käppi specializes in ancient Finnish singing traditions and plays the Finnish-Karelian kantele. He is known as a pioneer of the kantele's contemporary revival, and also works as a researcher, teacher, producer, and composer - his compositions have been created for film, theatre, installations, and recordings.
Riikka Kaihovaara is a documentary filmmaker, journalist, and author working for Yleisradio. In her essay collections "Wild Human and Other Nature Pieces" and "Strange Animal and Other New Nature Pieces", she reflects on humanity's relationship with nature and our role as part of the natural world.
Sanja Hakala is a biologist, science writer, and postdoctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki. She researches the social behaviour of insects - particularly ants - and people's attitudes towards biodiversity, for example in urban green infrastructure. Hakala has written, among other works, "Little Moomin's Insect Book" and "Moominpappa's Bird Book".
Free admission. Bring a seat cushion and prepare for the weather with appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes. Note that the routes are not fully accessible. In heavy rain or stormy winds, the concert will be moved indoors to Stoa, and the insect walk will be held as a workshop inside Stoa.
The event is organized by Stoa, East Centre Library, and Cultural Services.
