The research vessel Aranda moors at Katajanokan pier near the SkyWheel observation wheel on 27.8.2026 and is open to the public from 12.00 to 19.00. Admission is free, but be prepared for queues.
Experts from the Finnish Environment Institute, the Finnish Meteorological Institute, and the Natural Resources Institute answer questions about the Baltic Sea and marine research. Guides from Harakan nature centre tell visitors about the wildlife along Helsinki's coast. Visitors can climb to the bridge, and the research deck showcases studies conducted in the Baltic Sea: herring research, shipwrecks, and underwater noise. You can also learn how the Baltic Sea's condition is monitored using increasingly advanced satellites.
The Baltic Sea is Aranda's primary research area, but the vessel has also conducted research in the North Atlantic and the southern hemisphere's seas.
Access on the vessel is not barrier-free. Children are welcome under adult supervision, but moving around with infants is not recommended. Daycare groups and other children's groups are not accepted for safety reasons.
