Jazz Jkl Live: Grotto

Grotto is a trio founded in 2022 that performs music composed by drummer Joonas Leppänen. The group plays bass clarinet, Hammond organ, and drums, approaching the organ trio concept with a Nordic sensibility - introspective yet playful. Beyond jazz, the music draws influences from reggae and Western art music.

The band members are well-known figures in Finland's jazz scene. Saxophonist and bass clarinetist Max Zenger is recognized for his own groups Maxxxtet and Max Zenger Globus, as well as his work with UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra and Kaisa's Machines. Pianist and organist Antti Kujanpää specializes in Hammond organ and is known for collaborations with Aili Ikonen and Yona. Jyväskylä-based Joonas Leppänen studied at the prestigious Jazz Institute Berlin, and his other ensembles include Alder Ego, Grímsey, and Big Blue.
