Tanssin Aika 2026: Wounding the World — Blomstedtin sali, Jyväskylä

On the opening day of Tanssin Aika, Blomstedtin Hall will present two solo works by dancers from Central Finland and Pirkanmaa. The programme opens with the premiere of Katja Sallinen's work "mikä estää olemasta", followed by Leevi Rauhalahti's solo piece "Wounding the World". One ticket grants access to both works.

"Wounding the World" is a solo dance work performed and choreographed by Rauhalahti. It explores phallocentrism through movement from the perspective of a non-binary conscientious objector - and how the patriarchal world requires violence directed at bodies in order to maintain control. The work begins with a body struggling in the centre of a battlefield. A gender-neutral funeral chant escalates into a totalitarian choreography that tears at the body. Yet this exercise of power transforms into a seed for a new world: using two mannequin legs, the dancer creates new silhouettes and seeks forms beyond gendered understandings of the body. The work asks whether our gendered understanding of the body lies in the body itself or in the viewer's perspective.

Tickets: 25 € (regular price) and 15 € (discount groups). Organiser: Keski-Suomen Tanssin keskus, [email protected], 044 399 2234.
