Saara Suvanto in Our Memory: Pekka Nisu, Hanna Ekola, Martti Heikkilä & Make Tommila
Kulttuuritalo Telakka, Tampere
alk. 20 €
Singer-songwriter Saara Suvanto (1959-1999), a cult figure in Finnish music, released her first single 40 years ago. A concert held in her hometown of Punkalahti sold out quickly, and next autumn the artist's career will be celebrated with performances across the country.
Saara Suvanto was a bold and independent songwriter whose deeply human songs emphasize love, the experience of loneliness, and connection with nature. The artist became blind at age 20 and released three albums during her career. Her classics include "Ruman rajun Raija rouvan rokki", "Viimeinen motelli", "Lähellä sydäntäni" and "Kissat ja koirat ja linnutkin" - the latter has been performed in recent years by Ellips (Elli Haloo), Jukka Nousiainen and the Amuri band at their own concerts.
Taking the stage are Pekka Nisu, Suvanto's siblings Hanna Ekola and Martti Heikkilä, and Make Tommila, each presenting their own version of Saara's songs.
