Songwriter Martti Heikkilä visits Karkkila Library

Songwriter, non-fiction author, and journalist Martti Heikkilä visits the Uusimaa Writers' author evening at Karkkila City Library (Valtatie 26 E) on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Heikkilä's songs and lyrics have been recorded since the 1970s. He wrote his most famous song, "Wild Horses," in 1989 while working as an editor for Karkkila Tienoo. Last autumn, he published the non-fiction book "A Songwriter's Poetics - From Subject to Rhyme" (Momentum Kirjat), and he has been teaching songwriting for nearly thirty years. As a journalist, he has interviewed over a hundred Finnish songwriters and composers for the magazine "Music Creator" about the origins of their most famous songs.

During the evening, Heikkilä will also perform several of his own compositions, including the peace song "Cats and Dogs and Birds Too," which his sister Saara Suvanto recorded in 1987.

Admission is free. Other autumn author visits include poet Marko Korvela on November 4 and author-folklorist Juha Jyrkäs on December 9.
