15.9. 85 Years Since the Sinking of the Armoured Ship Ilmarinen
Finland's naval flagship Ilmarinen sank on a mine off Utö on 13 September 1941. 271 men perished with the vessel, and the tragedy was kept secret by Mannerheim's order until autumn 1945. Docent and historian Ville Jalovaara discusses his historical work "Ilmarinen 1941 - Operation Nordwind and Finland", published in January 2026.

20.10. The History of the Vartiokylä Bay Area
During the Middle Ages, two villages emerged on the shores of Vartiokylä Bay, which later became the Puotila and Rastila estates. The area also contained an ancient fortified height that guarded an old sea passage. The lecture covers places and people around Vartiokylä Bay through the centuries and offers a glimpse of the area's future.

10.11. Early Advocacy - Helsinki's Seamen's House in the 18th Century
Advocacy for maritime workers was essential in the latter half of the 18th century: work at sea was hard and dangerous, and there were many widows. The fortification works at Viborg had stimulated the city's economic activity and increased the number of people earning their living from seafaring. Helsinki's Seamen's House was one of the social innovations brought about by the Viborg fortification works.
