Tuula and Pirkko: We Always Have Toro
24,80 € / 20 €
Tuula and Pirkko are a spirited, combined 170-year-old couple from Ala-Vittula. They don't much like each other, yet have spent their entire lives living closely together. Age has not mellowed them - quite the opposite. Tuula adores Cindy Crawford and personal space, while Pirkko dismisses her grandchildren's clay work and drawings, and still cannot bake.
After various mishaps, the duo dust off their suitcases and head to Finavia's ticket counter - perhaps to pay one last aviation tax - toward sunny Fuengirola. In Toro's shadow, the most important conversations of their lives unfold, and both the daughters' hardened attitudes toward their mothers and patriarchal macho culture come under scrutiny. Will they find romance, a luxury yacht, or Sean Connery's chest hair on Fugen's beach?
The performance is a tribute to carelessness, joie de vivre, free will, stream of consciousness, silly things, dreams, and the right to self-determination.
Script, direction, and all roles: Ria Kataja and Minna Kivelä. Lighting design: Niina Sivén. Sound design: Esko Paavola. Tuula and Pirkko first appeared in Pentti Järvinen's script for the production Punkkuelämää, and since then they have also created a 9-part comedy series "Kahven markan mummot - todella karmeeta-show".
Duration: approximately 2.5 hours including intermission. Age recommendation 15+.
