Author Mirva Karkinen on Visit

At Tapiola Library on Thursday 3.9.2026 from 18:00 to 19:00, author Mirva Karkinen will discuss her debut novel Leviatan (Aviador 2026). Karkinen will explore the novel's themes, intentions, and creative process, and will read excerpts from the book.

Leviatan tells the story of women waiting for a breakthrough - before resolution comes, humans must stretch to their limits, and so laughter and cries echo from the women's restrooms. The work examines the position of modern women and delves into the misogyny that dwells in society's depths. It is a narrative about inequality, but above all a voice for empathy.

Mirva Karkinen (born 1994) is a Helsinki-based writer with a master's degree in literature and philosophy. Her research interests include literature, power, and gender. She has previously published feminist literary criticism and essays on the book industry.
