Tango del norte

Tango del norte is a Finnish tango ensemble that has won prizes in international competitions and began its journey with Astor Piazzolla's music in 2011. Over the years, the band's musicians have studied tango with Argentine musicians, which is evident in their sound. More than 300 concerts have been performed throughout Finland, with performances also taking place on concert stages, in clubs, and at tango festivals across Europe and in Argentina. During the 2025-2026 winter season, the tour took the ensemble to Argentina and Spain in addition to Finland.

Awards have come, among others, from 2021, when Tango del norte placed second in the Italian competition "Astor Piazzolla - Città di Trani 2021" to honour Piazzolla's centenary. In 2018, the ensemble's bandoneon player Sami Pirttilahti won the international "Che Bandoneon" competition in the USA. Three albums have been released: "Raíces de pasión" (2016) with Argentine singer Romina Bianco, "Solos & Duos" (2018), and the latest album "Argentiinalaisittain" (2025), which was also released in Argentina in October 2025.

The 2026 concert tour celebrates the ensemble's 15-year journey. The programme features new arrangements and old favourites - from classics of Argentine and Finnish tango to Astor Piazzolla's music.
