Youth National Theatre: if we are asked

Youth National Theatre is a group of young theatre makers who challenge assumptions about who gets to create theatre art and for whom. The group includes young people from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Finland, Kurdistan, Somalia and Syria working together with experienced artists.

"if we are asked" is not based on an existing script, but the performance text was developed in the rehearsal room through improvisation starting in January 2026. The production explores questions of language, truth, tradition and the contemporary world - the effort to understand others and shape the stories told about us. On stage, a word can become a weapon, or it can become a bird.

The performance includes Finnish, English, Somali, Bengali, Arabic, Turkish and Dari. Subtitles in English and Finnish. No intermission, duration announced at the premiere, age recommendation 12+.
