Cinéstesia | International Film and Visual Art Seminar

Espoo Ciné is hosting a two-day international seminar as part of the festival's new Cinéstesia programme, dedicated to the connections between film and visual art based on moving image. The festival also launches a long-term partnership with the Saastamoinen Foundation.

The seminar begins at EMMA on Tuesday 25 August (12.15-16.30) and continues on Wednesday 26 August at Cinema Orion. At EMMA, Cinéstesia's main guests Ben Rivers and Nour Ouayda will speak. A panel discussion on the role of moving image in contemporary art will also take place - panellists will be announced closer to the event.

Cinéstesia's 2026 film programme is curated by curator and critic Erika Balsom (King's College, London). EMMA visitors are especially recommended to see Isaac Julien's early film screenings: Territories (1984) and Looking for Langston (1989) will be shown at Kino Regina on 28 August. Julien's later work is featured as part of the Alien in Me exhibition opening at EMMA in October.

Participation fee is 8 € / day, and seminar attendance does not require a museum ticket. Registration via Espoo Ciné's website. The event is in English.
