United for Ukraine

Ukraine's independence is celebrated at Senate Square with a ceremony starting at 5 p.m., featuring singing, dancing, and speeches. Sunflowers wave from the cathedral steps, as in previous years.

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, Archbishop Tapio Luoma, and Helsinki Deputy Mayor Johanna Laisaari are among the speakers. The programme also includes musical performances and a dance presentation by Ukrainian children.

After the Senate Square portion concludes, Ukrainians form a procession that leads interested participants along Alexander Street to Citizens' Square.

The event is organized by the Church in Helsinki and the Ukrainian Association in Finland in cooperation with the City of Helsinki, the University of Helsinki, the Prime Minister's Office, and the Embassy of Ukraine.
