Arcana Borealis - Women of the North and Esotericism

The exhibition explores how female artists from the North have combined art and alternative spiritual movements from the late 19th century to the present day. It also highlights the forgotten networks of these artists and the importance of collaboration both within the Nordic region and internationally.

About the venue: Ateneumin taidemuseo

Ateneum is Finland's national gallery and the country's largest art museum, housed in a neoclassical building completed in 1887 to designs by architect Theodor Höijer. Its permanent collection spans Finnish art from the 18th century to the 1950s, with works by Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Albert Edelfelt and Hugo Simberg among the highlights. The museum sits on Rautatientori, right in central Helsinki.
