What remains unrecorded in performative art?

Doubt - Holding the Show Together begins with a simple observation: the same performance can succeed perfectly one evening and fail completely the next. The performers and material stay the same, but the audience has changed. How can the audience have such a profound effect on what happens on stage?

This question is explored in a series of small performances at various locations in Helsinki in autumn 2026. The focus is on the invisible interaction between performers and audience - and at its heart lies the possibility of refusal: the audience can at any moment stop caring or leave. This fragility is part of what makes the situation alive. The audience holds up the performance, the performers hold up the audience - a silent agreement that is created anew each evening and rarely receives the recognition it deserves.

The performance poses concrete questions: what happens if the audience is given something crunchy to eat during a sensitive scene? If spectators swap places with a stranger? If each person listens to a different song while watching the same dance? If a scene is performed entirely in Latin? Rather than asking spectators to "participate" in the traditional sense, the performance asks them to notice that they have been participating all along.

The performance has been developed by the Laserdragons2000 working group as part of the Atten-dances project supported by the Kone Foundation. The creators are members of an international group who graduated from the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts. Duration: 60 minutes. Gentle participation, occasional loud sounds.
