Opera Box: Giellavealgu - Svenska Dagen i Nordhuset

Swedish culture is celebrated at Vuotalo with Opera Box's multilingual children's opera Giellavealgu (The Language Switcher).

The work is aimed at children aged 3-12 and premiered at Aleksanteri Theatre on 13 January 2026. In the opera, a wolverine, a bluethroat, and a snowy owl search for a shared voice - the story explores northern nature, friendship, Sámi culture, and linguistic identity. Direction and script are by Isa Kortekangas and Ville Salonen, with music composed by Pessi Jouste and Elias Nieminen. The accompaniment is violin-based and the music is ethnically influenced, drawing inspiration from Lapland's landscape.

Performance languages: North Sámi, Finnish, Swedish, Somali, Arabic, Ukrainian, and Swahili. Duration: approximately 35 minutes.
