Giitu - Thank You - Sámi Culture in Helsinki: Opening Concert of the Shared Village Exhibition

This concert evening marks the opening of the Shared Village exhibition. On the same day, the Helsinki City Museum opens an exhibition examining Sámi culture in an urban context, as well as the history, rights, and position of the Sámi community in Finnish society.

The evening centres on the world premiere of Giitu - Thank You. Norwegian composer Frode Fjellheim has composed this work based on the joik singing of Utsjoki-based Sámi artist Ulla Pirttijärvi for the Helsinki-based Ilma Vocal Ensemble, with the premiere conducted by Jennifer Moir. The Norwegian ensemble Aššu, featuring Pirttijärvi, will also perform.
