The Mikkeli City Orchestra is conducted by its principal guest conductor Juha Kangas in a string orchestra programme featuring cellist Alma Stupak as soloist - she won third prize at the Turku Cello Competition in spring 2026. The programme includes C. P. E. Bach's Cello Concerto in A major and Nordgren's TRANSE-CHORAL, which is structured in two large sections separated by silence.

The title TRANSE-CHORAL references the French word transe, encompassing meanings of ecstasy and dreamlike states through to suffering and anguish. The second section's choral themes - unconnected to any specific church music - develop in a painful and distressing direction, until the work reaches a trance-like state at its conclusion, con tenerezza.

The evening concludes with Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, a work heard surprisingly rarely in concert.
