Miisa Mäkeläinen: Lemmenlätäkkö

Miisa Mäkeläinen is a Helsinki-based painter whose works reference something familiar yet resist fixed meaning. In the exhibition Lemmenlätäkkö, nature's cycles intertwine with embodiment: tree canopies, mycelium networks, root systems, and the veins of leaves and streams of water pulse through layers of paint.

With her new paintings, Mäkeläinen has lingered over her works rather than rushing - building larger wholes from small details and allowing herself more space. The colour combinations have deepened, and the artist is fascinated by how difficult colours, when brought together at first glance, create harmony.

Miisa Mäkeläinen (born 1992) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of the Arts Helsinki in 2025. Her works are included in the Finnish State Art Collection and the Finnish Art Society collection.
