Liikkeellä marraskuussa - Mélanie Demers: Confession Publique

Confession Publique is a shared research journey between choreographer Mélanie Demers and performer Angélique Willkie into self-revelation. The work circles around ambiguity and paradox - the tension between the noble and the tasteless, grace and brutality.

In the solo performance, Willkie is both subject and narrator: anecdotes become painful secrets in her hands, and the body speaks as much as words. Her presence shifts between devotion and indifference, and she shapes the space through her voice and presence - at times vulnerable, at times powerful. This complete exposure is possible only because a deep trust has grown between the two artists.

Mélanie Demers is the founder of the Montreal-based dance group MAYDAY (2007). She has created over thirty choreographies that have been presented in over forty cities around the world. Her works are characterized by a combination of poetry and politics, as well as genre-transgressing hybridity. Both WOULD and Confession Publique have won CALQ Awards for best choreography. Internationally, Animal Triste and Cabaret Noir have also toured. In theatre, Demers has directed Jordan Tannahill's Déclaration and prepared the performance l'amour ou rien in 2025.

Angélique Willkie is a performer who has worked as a dancer, singer, dramaturg, and teacher. She graduated from the School of Toronto Dance Theatre and subsequently moved to Belgium, where she worked for over two decades. There she danced for, among others, Alain Platel, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Karin Vyncken and Ja
