About
Ella Isotalo is a Helsinki-based multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger (MuM) who draws on her South Ostrobothnian and Savo-Karelian folk roots alongside the musical traditions of the Wagogo people of Tanzania, which she has studied on location. In solo performance she plays violin, jouhikko and the Wagogo ilimba (thumb piano), sings in Finnish and Swahili, and builds each piece live into a looper layer by layer. She is also one half of the electro-archaic duo uni uni and a member of the folk group Antti & Isotalo.
