Gáddjá Haarla Pieski

About

Gáddjá Haarla Pieski is a Sámi dancer, choreographer and performing artist from Dálvadas, Ohcejohka (Utsjoki), on the Finnish side of Sápmi. She trained at the Finnish National Opera Ballet School (graduating 2019) and at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels, where she earned her Bachelor in Dance in 2022. Together with her sister Biret, she created the duet 'Starting from Staring - Čalmmiid Čađa', which premiered at Beursschouwburg Brussels during EU Sámi Week 2022 and toured to Baltic Circle and Tanzquartier Wien. Her work - spanning performance, video installation and circle dance - centres on Sámi rights, cultural identity and the relationship between body and land.

    The video installation 'Guhte gullá - Here to Hear', co-created by Gáddjá and Biret Haarla Pieski with Outi Pieski, was included in the group exhibition 'They Began to Talk' at Kumu Art Museum in Tallinn, running February-August 2025.

    Biret and Gáddjá Haarla Pieski received the inaugural Young Dance Artist Award, valued at €8,000, from the Kuopio Dance Festival jury.

    Gáddjá Haarla Pieski contributed as artistic dialogue partner on Biret Haarla Pieski's new performance 'Päähenkilö / Main Character / Oaivámuš', which premiered at URB Festival in Helsinki in June 2026.
