About

HUIPPU is a six-piece Finnish folk band formed in autumn 2023 by students who met at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. Their debut album Haikankärki (May 2025) drew wide attention across Finnish radio and folk circles, earned a nomination at the Musiikinkustantajien gaala, and won them the Vuoden tulokas (Newcomer of the Year) prize at the Eläköön Folk! gala in January 2026. The band blends fiddles, accordion, guitar, mandolin, double bass and drums into a groove-driven, dance-friendly sound that draws on Nordic and Irish folk traditions alongside pop melody.

    HUIPPU performed at the 44th Shetland Folk Festival (30 April-3 May 2026) in Lerwick, marking their debut UK appearance.

    HUIPPU was confirmed for the Saturday main concert at the Shetland Folk Festival's Clickimin Centre alongside international acts.
