Loscil is the project name of Vancouver-based Canadian composer and multimedia artist Scott Morgan, active since 1998. Over more than two decades he has built a catalogue of ambient, drone and electroacoustic music - most of it released on the Chicago label Kranky - that draws on conceptual frameworks ranging from thermodynamics to ecology. He studied computer music under pioneer Barry Truax at Simon Fraser University and has also composed for film, television and games, and played drums in the indie-rock band Destroyer.
Loscil released Lake Fire on Kranky on May 2, 2025, receiving a Metacritic score of 81/100 ('universal acclaim').
Loscil announced a European tour in support of Lake Fire, with dates in Iceland, Germany, Belgium, Spain, the UK, Norway and Poland in September 2025.
In a January 2025 interview, Morgan confirmed he had delivered a new album to Kranky in summer 2024, which became Lake Fire.
Morgan released Umbel, a photo book and CD, and performed it live on a 4D sound system in Vancouver in 2024.
Loscil and Lawrence English continued their Colours of Air European and Australian tour in 2024, also releasing a tour CD extension called Chroma.
