Tumppi Varonen (born Tuomo Vilhelm Valokainen, 7 September 1956, Helsinki) is a Finnish punk rock singer and songwriter who co-founded the band Problems with Ari Taskinen in 1977. He is one of the cornerstones of Finnish punk, known both for Problems classics like "Katupoikien laulu" and for his years fronting Pelle Miljoona & 1980, where he sang the lead on the enduring hit "Tahdon rakastella sinua". Alongside music he has worked as a practical nurse and has also been active in local politics.
Tumppi Varonen & Problems played the 'Katupoikien laulut 2025' tour, including a show at Pato Areena in Kuusankoski on 19 April 2025.
The band performed at G Livelab Helsinki on 26 March 2025 and G Livelab Tampere on 27 March 2025, with sets honouring the memory of co-founder Ari Taskinen.
The band played Toppila Klubi in Oulu on 11 April 2025 as part of the same spring tour.
Stupido Records released 'Problems - Singles 1978-1983', a vinyl compilation of rare early Finnish punk singles, in early 2024.
A memorial concert for Problems co-founder Ari Taskinen was held at Tavastia in Helsinki on 15 April 2024.
