Ypö-Viis is a punk band from Karhula, Kotka, founded in the summer of 1977. The band holds a firm place in Finnish music history as the first punk act to self-release a record in Finland - their debut single 'Energia on A ja O' / 'Kotka palaa' came out in a 200-copy pressing in late 1978. After disbanding in 1981, the group has resurfaced periodically, and the current lineup still features original members Miika Söderholm, Jari Räsänen and Rabbe Johansson.
Ypö-Viis is booked to perform at Pyhtään Kulttuuritalo on 10 July 2026 as part of the 'Punk 50 vuotta' outdoor concert series.
The 1979 live album 'Karhulan poikii live' was reissued on vinyl in November 2023.
Ypö-Viis announced a return to gigging in summer 2022 after roughly five years of inactivity, and released a co-branded beer with Kotka Steam Brewery.
In August 2013 Ypö-Viis released a new single 'Bipolaari' / 'Hyvää Meripäivää' through Torpedotuotanto, ending a 33-year recording silence.
