What was punk?
Good question - punk turns a respectable 50 years old in 2026! And Pelle is of course also celebrating that with his own 70th birthday gigs.
The first real punk song is often considered to be the American Ramones' "Blitzkrieg Bop", released in February 1976.
So, while the exact starting point of punk is debated, here are some key moments:
The turning point came in 1976: Ramones' debut album in April 1976 and The Damned's "New Rose" in October 1976 established the punk sound.
Proto-punk in the late 1960s and early 1970s: Punk's predecessors are considered to be songs like The Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog" from 1969 or MC5's "Kick Out The Jams".
In Finland, the first Finnish-language punk songs were released in 1978, most notably Pelle Miljoona & N.U.S.'s "Olen työtön" and Eppu Normaali's "Poliisi pamputtaa taas".
PELLE MILJOONA & PISPALA PUNKS is an energetic special lineup that focuses on playing classics from Pelle's early recording years.
The setlist includes, among others, "Mulla menee lujaa", "Rakastava voima", "Viimeinen syksy", "TV", "Nuoret sankarit", "Väkivalta ja päihdeongelma", "Mä vaan pogoon" and "Lähdetään kiitämään". The programme also features a few select tracks from the album "Moottoritie on kuuma". With this lineup, Pelle rarely performs, so it's really worth experiencing genuine punk classics.
