Tomi Kontio (born 1966) is a writer from East Helsinki and father of five children. Kontio's debut work, the poetry collection "Under the Sky of the Dance Hall", was published in 1993. The book was awarded as the year's best debut. Throughout a consistent and prolific writing career, Kontio has written over thirty books - both poetry and prose for children and adults.
Kontio has lived practically his entire life in East Helsinki. This East Helsinki identity is reflected in Kontio's works, both as settings and atmosphere.
