Piirpauke performs at Bar Loose on Saturday 1.8.2026 to celebrate the release of their new album Lumo. The album, coming out in November, features interpretations of works by Jean Sibelius, Oskari Merikanto, Toivo Kuula, Selim Palmgren and Yrjö Kilpinen. The first single is Silloin laulan, composed by Yrjö Kilpinen to texts from Kantelettaren, with Paleface contributing his own interpretation.
Over the years, Piirpauke has explored the musical traditions of many cultures - nuevo flamenco, mbalax, jazz, progressive rock, musica llanera, and Romanian and Turkish music. This jubilee album brings together all these elements while drawing on the works of Finnish master composers now part of history.
The band was formed at Pori Jazz in 1975, and their debut album has sold more than any other instrumental music album released in Finland. Piirpauke has performed on the same stages as Miles Davis, Ravi Shankar, Astor Piazzolla and Nirvana.
Line-up: Sakari Kukko - piano, saxophones, flute / Matti Salo - guitars / Ari Hossi - bass / Ilmari Heikinheimo - drums, percussion
