Guided Tours at Joksalan — Joksalan alue, Eväjärvi, Jämsä

Jouko "Joksa" Sohlman (b. 1946 - d. 2024) built a small Kalevala-style village at Eväjärvi in Jämsä with the goal of living self-sufficiently and in harmony with nature without external help. He built all the structures himself, by hand and without electricity.

Beneath the area lies an extensive tunnel network that Sohlman constructed to prepare for the worst possible catastrophe. The tunnels include a survival bunker that served as a last refuge.

The guided tour (approximately 40 minutes) passes through the tunnel network and provides information about the buildings, the area, and the life of this extraordinary man. The cost is 12 € per person; children under 15 enter free when accompanied by an adult.

The area also features a summer café, a grilling shelter, toilets, and a nature trail open to everyone. Note that the area is not fully accessible - there are stairs.
