Art History Walking Tours: University Main Building

On this guided tour, you will explore two distinct periods of the University of Helsinki's main building: the original section designed by Carl Ludvig Engel and completed in 1832, and the extension built in the 1930s. The guides are art history students from the University of Helsinki. The tours are organized by the Faculty of Humanities, and the summer programme includes a total of 13 different walking tours.

The tour takes place on 3.8., 10.8. and 18.8.2026 from 14.00 to 15.00. Admission is free and no advance registration is required. The tour is conducted in Finnish. Please arrive at the meeting point - the steps at the main entrance of the main building, Unioninkatu 34 - 5-10 minutes before the start. Tours are held regardless of weather.

Accessibility: The tour is not accessible. The route includes cobblestone paving outdoors, various stairs and thresholds, and heavy exterior doors.
