Guided Tours of Joksala

Jouko "Joksa" Sohlman (b. 1946 - d. 2024) built a small Kalevala-inspired village at Eväjärvi in Jämsä with the goal of living self-sufficiently and naturally without external help. He constructed all the buildings himself, by hand and without electricity.

Beneath the area lies an extensive tunnel network that Sohlman built to prepare for the worst possible catastrophe. The tunnels contain, among other things, a survival bunker intended as a last refuge.

The guided tour (approximately 40 minutes) passes through the tunnel network and includes information about the buildings, the area, and the story of Sohlman's life. The price is 12 € per person; children under 15 can join free of charge when accompanied by an adult.

The area also has a summer café, a grilling cottage, toilets, and a nature trail open to everyone. Please note that the area is not fully accessible - there are stairs.
