AJAN REUNA

AJAN REUNA is an exhibition organized by Jyväskylä Artists' Association, based on an Ostrobothnian rural landscape - quiet villages, abandoned farmsteads and weathered buildings.

The artist has walked these yards, peered through windows and painted what she found: tilted cottages and barns, overgrown grass, perennials returning to flower beds left untended. The paintings emerge at the boundary between memory and observation - the time of former inhabitants is present in the structures, trees and yard stones.

Some of the exhibition's subjects have already vanished. Several buildings collapsed after being painted; barn walls were hauled away on a tractor's trailer. The exhibition documents a frontier that is fading.
