Ilkka Heiskanen - A Few Words About Marriage

Ilkka Heiskanen performs his monologue "A Few Words About Marriage" at Lobby Myyrmäki. The main character is 61-year-old Tapio - known as Tapi among friends - an ordinary Finnish man whose verbal skills were honed in a garage and whose long marriage has recently begun to raise questions. In Tapio's hands emerges a neat wooden bowl crafted with a rubber mallet and chisel, yet the everyday reality of marriage has proven to be a far more complicated project.

The performance is entirely Heiskanen's creation: he has written, directed, designed the set, created the costumes, and plays the lead role himself. Heiskanen graduated as an actor in 1985 and has since worked at Vaasa City Theatre, Helsinki City Theatre, and as a freelancer on numerous theatre stages as well as in film and television productions. He played the lead role in Tampere Theatre's "The Captain's Christmas" for twelve years and has won two Jussi Awards for Best Supporting Actor in the films "Silence" (2012) and "The Moment Strikes" (2023).

Lobby Myyrmäki is a 60-seat club on the second floor of the Myyrinpuhos building, entrance via staircase A between restaurant Toppar and Myyrmäe pharmacy. You can reach it by bus, train, or car - from central Helsinki in just over a quarter hour with an AB ticket.
