Jumbo Library Opening

The opening of Jumbo's new library takes place 15-18 October 2026. The programme features author visits, music, theatre, book-talk concerts and workshops. Each opening day visitors can explore the library's new spaces through a treasure hunt.

Thursday 15 October
1-3 p.m. (continuous) pin badge workshop. 5 p.m. opening remarks by Deputy Mayor Riikka Åstrand and Service Manager Marjo Päivärintathe. 5:30 p.m. troubadour Pasi Repo performs Eino Leino's words and music. 6:15 p.m. author visit with Mariia Niskavaara, author of the debut novel "Ester the Butcher", in interview format.

In the event hall throughout the opening weekend is a poster exhibition "You wished, we delivered!" which tells how library visitors participated in planning Jumbo Library. A library staff member is on hand to tell about the godparent programme at 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.

Friday 16 October
12:30-2:30 p.m. (continuous) comic workshop: design your own comic character and create your own comic. For all ages, no pre-registration required. Instructor is art educator Kissa Koskinen from the Comic Centre. 4 p.m. Zone VD (Joona Leppälä) talks about his career path on YouTube and its stages, successes and surprises. 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. mixed choir Unreality performs familiar songs from TV series, films and animations. Unreality is a mixed choir dedicated to film music.

Saturday 17 October
2 p.m. Teater Tapir presents a Swedish-language children's performance En diktvarieté för barn - Röjsfasoner. The performance features poems by, among others, Stella Parland, Peter Sandelin, Ulf Stark and Annika Sandelin. The performance lasts about 30 minutes and is best suited for children aged approximately 5-9 years. 4 p.m. Dangerous Women - a story hour for adults: thriller writers Pauliina Susi, Virpi Hämeen-Anttila, Ansu Kivekäs and Tiina Raevaara
