Multilingual Children's Literature Salon and Workshop

A multilingual children's literature salon and workshop takes place on Saturday 26.9.2026 from 1 p.m. in the auditorium of Pasila Library. The event celebrates the work of Lithuanian author Evelina Daciūtė and is held in honour of Baltic Unity Day and European Day of Languages.

Daciūtė will present two of her books, both translated into Latvian and Finnish: "Laimė yra lapė" (Finnish "Onni on oranssi kettu", translated by Tanja Falk; Latvian "Laime ir lapsa", translated by Dace Meiere) and "Drambliai ėjo į svečius" (Finnish "Norsut menevät kylään", translated by Urtė Lieponiūtė; Latvian "Ziloņi gāja ciemos", translated by Dace Meiere). The books will be read and discussed together with Daciūtė and translator Urtė Lieponiūtė - you can ask Lieponiūtė how the book comes alive in Finnish. Additionally, Daciūtė will lead a creative workshop for children. All three language versions will be available at the event.

The event is open to everyone, and families with young children are especially welcome. The languages used are Lithuanian, Latvian, English and Finnish.

The event is organised by the Lithuanian Culture Institute, the Embassy of Lithuania in Finland and the Embassy of Latvia in Finland in cooperation with the University of Helsinki (Language Centre, Baltic Philology), the Multilingual Library and the City Library of Helsinki.
