MIKKELI CITY ORCHESTRA: MIZAR

Mikkeli City Orchestra performs under the baton of Janne Nisonen at the Mikaeli concert and congress hall in Mikkeli on Thursday, 17 September 2026. The programme features the world premiere of Esa Pietilä's violin concerto "Mizar" with Erkki Lasonpalo as soloist, alongside Benjamin Britten's string quartet and Arvo Pärt's Cantus in memory of Benjamin Britten. Nisonen brings the opening date of his four-concert Finnish tour to Mikkeli, with further performances scheduled in Lohja, Kokkola and Helsinki later in the autumn. Pietilä's new work combines violin, string orchestra and percussion, while Lasonpalo steps into the soloist role rather than his familiar position as conductor.
