Austra is a Canadian electronic music project from Toronto, built around singer, songwriter and producer Katie Stelmanis - a classically trained musician who grew up performing with the Canadian Children's Opera Chorus. Founded in 2009, the project blends darkwave aesthetics, synth-pop and Stelmanis's operatic voice across five studio albums released on Domino Records. The debut Feel It Break (2011) was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize, and the project has since toured clubs and concert halls worldwide.
Austra released her fifth studio album Chin Up Buttercup on November 14, 2025 via Domino Records, receiving favorable reviews from Pitchfork, AllMusic and others.
Austra announced a 2026 world tour spanning North America and Europe, with dates from January through March.
Austra shared the single 'Siren Song', co-written with Montreal DJ Patrick Holland, ahead of the album release.
Chin Up Buttercup was co-produced with Kieran Adams and draws on Eurodance and Madonna's Ray of Light as key influences.
Austra announced Chin Up Buttercup in August 2025, marking her first full-length release since HiRUDiN in 2020.
