Eero Koivistoinen Quartet is a Finnish jazz group led by tenor saxophonist and composer Eero Koivistoinen (b. 1946), one of the most decorated figures in Finnish jazz history. The current quartet - with Alexi Tuomarila on piano, Jori Huhtala on bass and Jussi Lehtonen on drums - has been together since 2012 and has released three albums on Svart Records. Koivistoinen studied at the Sibelius Academy and Berklee College of Music, won the first-ever Yrjö prize of the Finnish Jazz Federation in 1967, and led his quartet to victory at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1969.
Svart Records reissued the quartet's rare 1978 live album 'At Belmont Jazz Club' for the first time digitally and on CD, nearly half a century after its original Love Records release.
Koivistoinen was named artistic director of Korpo Sea Jazz 2026, the archipelago jazz festival held each summer.
The quartet performed a Mother's Day afternoon concert at Koko Jazz Club in Helsinki on 11 May 2025.
The quartet is scheduled to perform at Suistojazz in spring 2026, with Koivistoinen celebrating his 80th birthday year.
The quartet toured Finland in October-November 2024 together with vocalist Nina Mya, performing new and rearranged material recorded by Yle in December 2024.
