About

Opeth is a Swedish progressive metal band from Stockholm, active since 1990 and led throughout by vocalist and guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt. Their music weaves death metal ferocity, acoustic folk passages, jazz-inflected keyboards and 1970s prog rock into long, narrative-driven compositions - a combination that has made them one of the most influential acts in heavy music. Albums such as Blackwater Park (2001) and Ghost Reveries (2005) are considered landmarks of the genre, and their 14th record, The Last Will & Testament (2024), marked a widely acclaimed return to death-metal growls for the first time since 2008.
