Keskustakirjasto Oodi, Helsinki
ilmainen
Lautsaari Music Festival presents a free seminar on the meaning of art in an unstable world. Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks and Finnish composer Olli Kortekangas discuss together. Interviewers are Seppo Kimanen and Marko Ylönen. The programme features Pēteris Vasks's String Quartet No. 4 performed by the Erinys Quartet. The seminar is held in German and Finnish.
Pēteris Vasks is one of Latvia's most renowned contemporary composers. His music combines deep emotional expression, the sonic world of nature, and reflection on fundamental questions of humanity. Vasks's music gained particular significance in 1980s Soviet Latvia, where its powerful and moving expression reflected the era's anxiety, hope, and national awakening. Olli Kortekangas is a versatile Finnish composer whose extensive output ranges from choral music to opera and chamber music. His works often address human and social themes such as identity, history, and violence, and he has particularly emphasized the expressive power of the human voice and text.
