Where We Once Walked
Suomenlinnan kesäteatteri, Helsinki
40€/26€/34€/20€
Helsinki at the turn of the 20th century. The city grows, transforms, and tensions between social classes intensify. In restless working-class quarters, people gather to demand justice, while across the Long Bridge, toasts are raised to the promises of a new era. Soon society tears apart, and the streets of the newborn nation's capital become the stage for a far-reaching tragedy.
Where We Once Walked takes the audience through the fates of individuals, families, and social classes from the time of the general strike through the civil war and into the 1930s. It reveals why Finland as a nation is where it is today, and asks what remains of people when moral boundaries disappear. How quickly revenge and bitterness can consume an entire generation.
At the same time, it is a tribute to the people who once walked the streets of Helsinki - the very same streets where people walk today. People who once loved, hoped, suffered, tried to forget, and were forgotten.
In the leading roles shine Santtu Karvonen (Eccu), Satu Tuuli Karhu (Lucie), Miiko Toiviainen (Cedi), Ville Hilska (Allu), and Juha Kukkonen (Enok). Additionally, Robert Kock, Annika Hartikka, and Iina Nyländen (TeaK) perform in many other roles.
