SINETTI - Olga Knipper, Anton Chekhov and 857 Love Letters
Hannikaissali, Musiikkikampus, Jyväskylä
SINETTI is built on the correspondence between playwright Anton Chekhov and his wife, actress Olga Knipper, from the late 19th century. The couple lived apart for much of their marriage: Olga's career took her to Moscow while Anton managed his declining health in Yalta. After Anton's premature death, Olga lived for over 50 years without remarrying. Based on more than 800 surviving letters, their story comes alive on stage.
The performance is created by a trio: actress-pianist Elina Mustonen, pianist-composer Olli Mustonen, and director-dramaturg Johanna Freundlich. All the music heard in the performance is composed by Olli Mustonen specifically for this work - it is heard both as his own studio recording and as Elina Mustonen's live playing, sometimes combining both. Speech and music play together from different sources.
On stage: Elina Mustonen. Script and direction: Johanna Freundlich. Composition and recorded music: Olli Mustonen.
