Jyväskylä City Theatre opens the autumn 2026 theatre season with the play Aino A., with a preview on 25.9. and premiere on 26.9. at 15.00 on the main stage. The work tells the story of an educated architect and woman standing beside a genius - a person with a strong voice and distinctive touch who remained partly invisible in her own time. The shared quarter-century of Aino and Alvar (1924-1949) forms the heart of the play, with Aalto performed by the acting couple Elina Saarela and Miika Laakso.

The play also touches on other notable figures of the era who shaped the birth of Finnish design. The story contains passion, contradictions and financial worries, but also joy and creative madness. The set design honours the spirit of early Artek. The work is grounded in history but employs theatrical means and narrative freedom - it is not a documentary.

The screenplay was written by Kati Kaartinen from Jari Järvelä's novel, and the play is directed by theatre director Marietta Kunnas. The musical composition work has been supported by the Central Finland Fund of the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
