Reading Dog at Tölö Library
ilmainen
Want to practice reading aloud? The reading dog is a patient listener who makes reading stress-free.
The reading dog at Tölö Library is available on Wednesdays 19.8., 2.9., 16.9., 30.9., 14.10., 28.10., 11.11., 25.11., and 9.12. from 18:00 to 19:20. Each reading session lasts about 15 minutes. You can read your own book to the dog or choose from the library's collection. Book your time through the library's customer service or by calling 09 3108 5025 - remember to cancel your reservation if you cannot attend.
Each reading session includes one reader, the dog, and the dog's handler. The handler observes from the side without interfering. The dog is a reading companion, not a playmate - you can pet the dog, but ask the owner's permission first.
The presence of a reading dog has been shown to reduce stress related to reading and is especially helpful for children and adults with dyslexia. The dog does not judge or interrupt, so the reader can practice at their own pace. The dog listens in all languages!
