Map Bingo at Ehrensvärd Museum — Ehrensvärd-museo, Helsinki

The first proper nautical charts of the Baltic Sea were created in the late 1500s, though the waters had been navigated since Viking times. Particularly during the 1600s and 1700s, Swedes and Russians established the foundation for systematic maritime cartography - nautical charts were cutting-edge technology of their era, strategically and economically valuable documents.

Map Bingo introduces you to the Navigator's Chart Collections - "Charts on the Journey Across the Baltic" - an exhibition that explores the fundamentals of maritime cartography and examines four chart collections from the 1600s to 1800s. The event is conducted in Finnish, and participation is possible with the museum's admission fee of 4/7 €.

The exhibition is open 3.7.-27.9.2026: 1.7.-31.8. daily 10.30-13.00 & 13.30-17.30, and 1.-30.9. Sat-Sun 10.30-16.00. The exhibition is produced by the John Nurminen Foundation in collaboration with the Ehrensvärd Society.
