Joakim Berghäll (b. 1980, Helsinki) is a Finnish multi-instrumentalist and composer whose work spans jazz, chamber music and theatre. His primary instrument is the baritone saxophone, though he has played cello since the age of three and also handles bass, guitar and percussion. Known for improvisation-led music that resists genre labels, he has collaborated with ensembles ranging from UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra to Ismo Alanko's band, and has composed music for several Finnish National Theatre productions including Kurjet (2024) and Macbeth (2017).
Berghäll and Adele Sauros are touring Finland in September 2026 with their duo project Runoja rauhalle - Poems for Peace, visiting seven cities as part of the Vapaat äänet / Finnish Jazz Federation co-production.
Berghäll participated as a panelist at Jazz-Espa 2026, the event marking 100 years since jazz arrived in Finland.
Berghäll composed the music for the Finnish National Theatre production Kurjet, which premiered on 14 February 2024.
The duo album Runoja rauhalle - Poems for Peace with Adele Sauros was released on 29 February 2024, recorded in Dolby Atmos at Kamppi Chapel in Helsinki.
Berghäll performed his composition Turta as baritone saxophone soloist with Sointi Jazz Orchestra in Savonlinna, a work drawing on his own experiences of school bullying.
