Mikko Innanen (born 1978, Lapinjärvi) is a Finnish saxophonist, composer and bandleader based in Helsinki, widely regarded as one of the most innovative voices on the Nordic jazz and improvised music scene. He studied at the Sibelius Academy and the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, and has since built a career spanning 38 countries across five continents, with roughly 90 releases to his name. His awards include the Finnish Jazz Federation's Yrjö prize, an Emma award, a state arts grant, and a 2022 DownBeat Rising Star citation. He co-founded the Fiasko Records label and the Hietsu is Happening! concert series.
Mikko Innasen uusi kvintetti released the album 'Ääniä, tavallaan' on Fiasko Records on 5 September 2025, Innanen's eighth release of the year.
The quintet toured Finland for the album release, playing seven cities between 10 and 19 September 2025.
Innanen released 'Brighton Beach Fantasy', recorded with American musicians Joe Fonda and Lou Grassi, in March 2025.
A live album with Norwegian bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, 'Live in Espoo', was released on Fiasko Records in April 2025.
Innanen performed at Jazz-Espa festival in Helsinki in summer 2025, alongside pianist Aki Rissanen.
